Special Educational Needs

At the Federation of Belle Vue infant and Newport Junior Schools we ensure that all children are valued equally, regardless of their abilities and/or social, emotional or behavioural needs. The school recognises that all children are entitled to have access to a broad and balanced curriculum which is differentiated to meet their individual needs. We support the vulnerable pupils in the schools, in partnership with their parents/carers, and working alongside the whole school staff to enable them to achieve their best in becoming more confident and independent learners.We highly value the contribution that parents make to this process, and welcome parents into school to discuss the needs of their children. The Federation has one Senco across the two schools, which enables smooth and careful transition for the children moving on, all the way from pre-school to year 7. Tracy Kempton - SENCO

The Senco is responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring SEN provision across the Federation, and manages the Learning Support according to the individual needs of the children. The Senco regularly liaises with a number of external agencies, including Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists etc. The Senco is also responsible for co-ordinating and monitoring support for Bi-lingual children across the Federation. The Senco is one of the CPLOs (Child Protection Liaison Officer) for both schools. 

The Senco is Tracy Kempton, and appointments can be made to see her through the Belle Vue or Newport School offices.

Implementation of SEN policy

The governors review the SEN policy on a regular basis and meet with the Senco to review provision. The SEN policy is being effectively implemented and this has led to children with SEN progressing well in school and achieving to their full potential.

Teachers & Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) continue to be dedicated to supporting the specific needs of the children across the Federation.  All adults supporting the children continue to be positive, and flexible in their approach to supporting sometimes very complex needs in the very best way they can. Teachers and LSAs have welcomed the support from external agencies both in terms of strategies and resources.  The Senco has organised support given to the NQTs by the Behaviour Support Team, and supervision sessions & training from a clinical psychologist from CAMHS (Child & Mental Health Service). Staff work very closely with the Speech and Language Therapist, as this continues to be one of the main special educational needs across the Federation.
